Dear Friends,

Here in Egypt or even in most Arab countries we can easily buy any albums of Amr. We can attend his concerts and watch his videos or interviews just with one click on any channel. But it's not the same with foreign fans.

We try to give you some stories from foreign fans around the world, and they will tell us how they started listening to Amr Diab and how they keep listening to him in very far distance, and we will try to get those stories for you and post it in single episode.

Episode# 05: "Very Interesting way to know Amr, By: Kate Quinn - USA"

I had never in my life heard of him, never seen a picture of him and never listened to any Middle Eastern music before October of 2008. I met a man on facebook in the application Hot Bids who told me his name was Sam Groom. He told me he was 33 yrs old and lived in Paris, France, hence on his screen name it said Groom, Sam, as that is the format for the French version. He had a profile picture of him in a pool with a cap and goggles and had a lot of friends on his page. Approximately 300, all women, so it was obvious this man was a playboy.
We started talking on MSN and did so for months. He told me a variety of things, such as he ran the family business and was an engineer with several branches of his company all over the world. When we first started talking, he told me Groom was a nickname and told me his real name was Amro. Obviously, you can see where this is going, and remember I had no idea who Amr Diab was.
During one conversation he told me his name was Amr Geer Diab. I was curious about his business so I googled his name and the name of the company. To my surprise, I found the pictures and videos. He had sent me other pictures of Amr before I found these web sites. The next time we talked, I confronted him. He told me that HE was Amr and there were other lies he told me, but I am not going to go into that. (He seemed sincere, because I have Bipolar disorder and when I was at my lowest points, he helped me to feel better.)
So, I started to listen to the music, because I assumed it was his. I went to youtube and found some with English subtitles. I was blown away by how poetic the lyrics were and loved Amr's voice. During our conversations in the December of 2009, he told me he was inspired by me and was having a song written for me. He told me, that I would know it because it had the words Catty Catty, Jana Jana.
I became increasingly suspicious, as he told me he wanted to meet me in April in the US and failed to do so, claiming he was sick and had been in the hospital with prostrate problems. I was offered a job in Dubai, (which I subsequently did not take) and he told me it would be easy for him to fly there once a month to be with me and that he knew some very powerful men there who could help me and watch over me.
The album came out and I LOVED it. During our last conversation, he told me that he had written the song Catty Catty Jana Jana and that the composer said ...,this is not an Egyptian name....and a bunch of other BS. He told me that he reworded it a bit and my song was Kollo Ella Habibi. After listening to it and thinking, I sent him a nasty email telling him I deserve to have someone who wants to be with me all the time, not just once a month, someone who wants to marry me.
So needless to say, through other sources, I trapped him in lies and got him kicked off of facebook.
Although this man totally devastated me, the one thing he gave me is a love of Amr Diab's music. I have been singing since I was very young and was in several bands in college as well as musicals. Now, I have started to learn how to sing in Arabic as well. I am going to the Middle East to teach in Abu Dhabi and have learned so much about the Middle Eastern culture because of this. Amr Diab is my favorite artist!!!

Thanks so much to all the web developers, especially Mohammed Tarek Solimon, who first contacted me about the story. The videos started off as an experiment. I love to sing and I did it, just to see if it could be done. I have many friends from Egypt and showed it to them. They liked it and told me to make more, then started sending requests. I am back in the US. The job in Abu Dhabi did not work out, so I am looking for work again! :-(
